Runners-Up 2022 Taranaki Women's Open Fours


Greater consistency sees title go south
There is no compensation, so the old adage goes, for close bowls.

That was illustrated very clearly in the final of the 70th Taranaki women’s Open fours at Paritutu yesterday.

The Marlborough team of Judy Hopgood, LaRita Franklin, Dot Arnesen and skip Jane McIntyre carried off the championship with a comfortable 24-11 victory.  In doing so, they have become the first South Island winners.

They led throughout the final against the Hawke’s Bay team of Sara Weeks, Sue Rogers, Hanna Rio da Silva and skip Natarsha Grimshaw.

While Grimshaw was easily the most decorated and well-known of the eight players in the final, it was the greater experience of the front three for McIntyre which proved the biggest difference in the decider.
